Despite the UK experiencing the warmest October days on record, we are definitely at the end of our long hot summer, with shorter days and darker nights fast approaching.

But just because the summer is over, this doesn’t signal the end of 2018’s fantastic run of pop – up cinemas. In fact, our winter venues are just warming up for what promises to be a spectacular festive period for all those who fancy watching their favourite Christmas movies in unique, one-off locations.

Who can say no to watching Love Actually or Elf wrapped up in blankets in a Winter Wonderland?

We can’t! So we have sought out several different options, across the UK for those wanting to enjoy their favourite Christmas films in unique and exciting venues.

“Cinema in the Snow”, Hackney Showrooms – London

First up, we have the wonderful Pop Up Screens with their “Cinema in the Snow” season in London’s Hackney Showrooms. Taking inspiration from C.S Lewis’ Chronicles of Narnia, Cinema in the Snow will immerse guests in a snowy forest environment, entered of course through a wardrobe, before you sit down to watch one of their many Christmas films on offer with a mulled wine in your hand.

It is running from the 13th to 23rd December 2018, with both matinee and evening performances, offer lots of fake snow and alpine scents but most importantly will show screenings of Home Alone, The Muppet Christmas Carol, Miracle on 34th Street, The Chronicles of Narnia, Elf, The Holiday, Arthur Christmas, The Nightmare Before Christmas, The Santa Clause, Love Actually and It’s A Wonderful Life.

“Wintery Wonkyland”, Passenger Shed – Bristol

Moving onto the vibrant city of Bristol, this festive period sees the Bristol Film Festival and Hype Agency joining forces to present a wonderful world of “Wintery Wonkyland” re-created at the iconic Passenger Shed in Bristol Temple Meads station.

Showing screenings from 19th December 2018 onwards of family favourites such as The Polar Express, Frozen, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Home Alone, and many more, your ticket allows you entry into a stunning fully-themed space, with plenty of refreshments for you to enjoy as you watch these wonderful classics with your family and friends.

“Winter Wonderland”, Hyde Park – London

Back in London, established Pop Up Cinema company Backyard Cinema will be presenting a Christmas cinema experience a little different from most! Based at Hyde Park’s famous Winter Wonderland for the duration of Christmas, it will be hosting an “immersive cinematic adventure” celebrating the 40th anniversary of Raymond Briggs’ classic The Snowman.

With the aim of making you feel like you’re flying with The Snowman, you will not just watch this classic story on screen but journey through it over 45 minutes, experiencing your favourite scenes as you walk through different rooms as the story unfolds. It will be a multi-roomed, multi-sensory cinematic adventure for the whole family to experience together. With tickets available from November 22nd, don’t miss this unique opportunity to enjoy a Christmas classic in a new, non-traditional cinema experience.

“Luna Winter Cinema”, St George’s Hall – Liverpool

Finally, who wouldn’t want to enjoy a Christmas classic in the beautiful St George’s Hall Liverpool? Hosted by The Luna Winter Company in the iconic Liverpool landmark, St George’s will provide the perfect Christmas setting for families and friends alike to experience the most beloved festive films.

This pop-up will screen movies across December, with a programme including Home Alone, Elf, The Muppet Christmas Carol and A Nightmare Before Christmas. Also on the schedule is festive classic It’s A Wonderful Life, romantic favourites The Holiday and Love Actually and the ever popular, Die Hard. Guests can also buy or bring blankets to get cosy with, whilst enjoying a festive tipple like mulled wine or hot chocolate.
